USC Band AD/TA Leadership Stipend

Stipends and tuition payments for USC undergraduate and graduate students who serve as an Associate Director, Assistant Director, or Teaching Assistant in the USC Trojan Marching Band.
The Associate Directors answer directly to the Director. While the Director is away from the band, it is the duty of the Associate Directors to fulfill the roles of the Director in their absence. They coordinate with the Assistant Directors to manage the staff of Teaching Assistants, and communicate directly with the Director regarding instruction and curriculum for leadership training, band camp and the season. ADs attend weekly meetings with the director, and oversee assigned sections and their respective TAs.

Assistant Directors attend weekly meetings with the director, and oversee assigned sections and their respective TAs.
Teaching Assistants (TA) assist the faculty, assistant directors and staff with the instruction of performance skills (music and marching), ensemble unity, choreography and leadership throughout the band. Each TA is assigned to duties based on their specific strengths and specialties – there are TAs that march and others that serve as “red coats” and manage their assigned sections during performances. Teaching assistants report to the associate and assistant directors and are graduate students and past band members with many years of experience in performance and education.
