Norman Topping Student Aid Fund - Academic Travel Opportunity
This opportunity is only for current and active Topping Scholars/Fellows
The Norman Topping Student Aid Fund offers supplemental scholarships to entering freshmen, transfer and graduate students based on the individual USC Financial Aid package. Topping Scholars have access to the Exceptional Funding (EF) Program. The purpose of the program is to provide financial assistance to Topping Scholars as they advance in their chosen field of study. The EF program encourages Scholars to take full advantage of university sponsored opportunities to enhance their higher education experience.
Conference Travel Application
- Eligibility maximum: Two (2) travel awards (study abroad and/or conference travel) during tenure at USC.
All conference travel applications must be submitted by the deadline that is at least six (6) weeks prior to travel. (See Exceptional Funding Handbook for monthly deadlines.)
Self-Reflection
Upon completion of conference travel, you are required to submit a reflection statement. The statement should assess your academic, personal, and/or professional growth after attending the academic/service-oriented/leadership conference and/or meeting. This reflection piece is due to the Associate Director within four (4) weeks of the date of travel. Reimbursements will not be processed until the self-reflection is submitted.

- Letter of Support: The recommendation should be from an instructor, advisor, or if applicable, a supervisor depending on the type of program for which you are applying. For example, an instructor should serve as your recommender if you are applying for an academic conference. The recommender should address the ways in which the program/conference is important to your advancement (academically, professionally, in your service endeavors, and//or your leadership development). Please make sure the following information about your recommender is correct. An email will be sent to your recommender to complete a memo that supports your request for funding. It is your responsibility to ensure that the contact information you provide is accurate. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
